Alvin and Aaron Give Demonstrations at our Drawing Meetup

At our Drawing and Painting Meetup hosted by Chris, Alvin talks about the difference between outline and contour. Aaron tells us about the velocity of edges and how to represent them including finding "passages" that create dimension.

Sorry about the lower resolution on this one. I think the message is still conveyed if you listen. Both Alvin and Aaron had some super observations to share and we were all grateful for both.

Landscape Drawing at Tower Grove Park

This Sunday, look forward to our meetup group's first and experimental trip to Tower Grove Park, to draw the scenery. We hope the weather holds up. If so, we will meet by the gazebo with the Composers Bust statues encircling it at 1:00 for an hour or two. Bring whatever materials you like. Watercolors can be fun if you have a nice compact kit.

See you there.

P.S. - Look forward to a near future event in which we mix costumed figures in an outdoor setting. Sounds like a fun challenge to me.

April Meetup at Meshuggah's

Chris's event was followed up by our gathering at Maehuggah's on the Delmar Loop. The day really couldn't be beat for weather, and we had a nice size group that included musical entertainment to accompany the artistic mood. This brought a few questions and some attention from passers by, and was therefore quite a good thing.

A Whirlwind Week

It has been a busy week. I can't believe how much has gone on despite personally being a bit under the weather. The Urban Awakenings show is tonight at Soulard Art Market. Despite possibly not being able to get over that direction myself tonight, I might be able to see it tomorrow. Anyway, you should check it out if you can. << Arrrrgh, do as I say, get over there. >> It's a really cool location and your likely to meet some equally cool people and art. Can you meet art?

Figure Drawing 101 - (Hosted: April 1, 2009)

drawings by Aaron, Havoc and Brian

There was an incredibly successful (all spots were filled) gettogether at Chris Manzo's place in which our two models inspired a plethora of good drawings. There were many people we knew, and some brand new, or from other circles. The refreshments were tasty and well done, and all were friendly.

"Great evening with fellow artists. Jeepnakked and Regina were great models. Thanks to all who brought food and drinks to share. Thanks Chris for hosting and allowing us to "invade" your home for the evening."

-HAVOC

"Chris was a great host (and cook). The group was very friendly and enthusiastic. A fun evening."

-Cathy Einspanier Moore

See the rest of the comments over at the Meetup Event Page.

If you are worried that you may have missed out on this event take heart, because there are still spots open for Figure Drawing 101 on Wednesday, April 15, 2009. Get them while they last.

Tuesday Drawing at the Guild

Tuesday was a good drawing session at The Saint Louis Artist's Guild. Our model was Eric. There were a few new faces, and I got some good information about other events and groups in the city. Will have to post more details on that soon.

Happy Wednesday! Hope to see you at Chris' place tonight!

Regards,

-Brian
